She asked me what I knew about being free and I looked at the breeze outside dancing wistfully between the clusters of emerald painted leaves hanging whimsically from their bark covered counterparts. I looked at the way the birds flew from one electrical wire to the next, keeping the arbitrary idiosyncrasies of the universe intact. I looked at the hundreds of fluffy white clouds that glided sedately against the backdrop of an utterly lucid blue sky. I looked at these things and felt shudderingly alienated.
I know nothing of being free.
Shades of magenta play tricks on the lavender paint chipped walls, laying way for the old clubs paint job to show its mediocrity. The disco ball, who has seen as many rotations around this room as the Earth has seen around the Sun, flickers lightly and consciously, tracing my arm with the same palpable display of careful regard that it treats all of its guests to. Specks of silver flecks dance callously close to the hairs of my arm, mimicking the movement of the perspiring pre-teens that exited this shit hole but a mere hour ago. It is 8 am and the coffee tastes like dirt, sweat, blood, and tears.
